Nsembe Technologies has launched Nsembe Games, a new division focused on game development. Our first game, Kopala, is now playable at kopala.space.

Nsembe Games makes street stories from Zambia. Every city has its own streets, its own people and its own trouble, and every game starts somewhere real.

Kopala: Chingola, on the Copperbelt

Kopala opens with Chola stepping off the Lusaka bus in Chingola, carrying one bag and a debt he ran from. Players dig copper from the old dumps, become a jerabo, stand up to the Tokota Boyz and look after Bana Chanda.

Chingola is an open town to explore on foot or by 4x4, from the town centre and the minibus rank to Chiwempala and Kapisha. Along the way you can eat nshima, dance in Chiwempala, race at the minibus rank, play football, run mealie meal to the Congo border, and maybe lift a copper truck.

Kopala runs in the web browser and is best played on a computer with a keyboard. It is a work of fiction: the places are real, and every character is invented.

What's next

Chola's story continues in two more cities. Lusaka brings Kamwala market, Cairo Road, the minibus touts and the men Chola owes. Kitwe brings Nkana's mine shafts and smelter stacks, Chimwemwe nights and a derby-day football rivalry. Both are coming soon, and you can follow along on our Games page.
