Nsembe Technologies has released Clinic OS, a free, offline-first clinic management desktop app for small clinics, rural health centres and frontline health workers in Zambia.
Clinic OS is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility programme. The core product is free forever, with no adverts and no subscriptions. Patient data is never sold or monetised, and it stays on the clinic's own computer.
What it does
Clinic OS covers the daily work of a small facility: patient registration with a printable QR patient card, a numbered daily queue, visits with vitals, consultation notes, referrals and follow-up, appointments, and medicine inventory with low-stock and expiry alerts. Reports can be printed or saved as PDF.
Access is role-based, so administrators, healthcare workers and records clerks each see only what they need. Records clerks, for example, cannot open clinical notes. Every change is logged in an audit trail, and a one-click backup protects the clinic's records.
Built with clinical safety in mind
Clinic OS does not invent diagnoses, treatments or dosages. Its decision support ships with no clinical rules. A facility imports protocols from an approved source, and each one stays switched off until a qualified clinician has reviewed it and the facility has approved it. The app supports health workers and does not replace their professional judgement.
Open source
The source code is open under the MIT licence at github.com/Nsembe/clinic_os, and Clinic OS is listed on our Resources page. Planned next steps include encrypted backups, PDF reports with facility letterhead, and optional syncing between facilities.
