Why Offline-First Matters in Africa

Connectivity is improving across Africa, but designing systems that assume permanent connectivity can still leave millions of users behind.

The internet has transformed how software is built and delivered. Yet the assumption that every user, institution and community will always have reliable connectivity does not reflect the reality of many African markets.

Offline-first technology is therefore not simply a fallback mechanism. It can be a deliberate architecture for building more resilient systems.

Designing for the edge

When computation and data storage move closer to users, systems can continue operating locally while synchronising with central infrastructure when connectivity becomes available.
